Thanks for sharing this Jenna. Starting in any creative field is too hard…
I loved the projection numbers for the next 6years… I keep doing that in my job and also as an author starting out. But want to add, we should also include inflation of atleast 4-5% because you never know… sorry for adding to the already not so great news…
Thank you so much for sharing this. I had no idea agents didn't do it full-time! But given the realities of the numbers, I can see why that's rarely sustainable. I mean, I knew it wasn't often a well-paid profession, but wow. Perhaps this explains why so many agents take so long to respond to queries, even for requested fulls.
Yes! It definitely contributes to how much/how fast we can work! (AND I'm crossing my fingers that I will one of the lucky ones that eventually gets to do this full time!)
I hope you get there. :) As someone who is both author and full-time teacher, I really, really get how precious little time we can sometimes devote to a first-in-one's-heart vocation.
Thank you very much for this article. Very benefic ! I learned new things about agenting today !
And, like your last paragraph, we authors love agents like you who love working on books and who love their authors. God bless. I hope I will be lucky to work with you soon. I'm waiting for your open to submit.

haha yep, that number will likely have to rise over time welp
Thanks for the transparency, Jenna. Seems like everything in publishing is a labor of love. I can see why it’s pretty elitist.
Yes--it's very hard to get this career kickstarted without some other source of financial stability!

Thank you for this level of transparency. It’s so important. The industry is so opaque!
It sure is. Whenever I can pry the lid off, I will!!
